Piccolo Brings Innovation To The Category With Fairtrade Baby Food Pouches
This April, Piccolo, the Mediterranean inspired organic baby food brand is launching the UK’s first ever range of baby food pouches blended using Fairtrade ingredients.

Piccolo Pure is a range of single fruit pouches which have been specially blended for those all-important first tastes. Piccolo Pure Banana and Piccolo Pure Mango are the only baby food pouches to hold Fairtrade accreditation, in keeping with

Piccolo’s commitment to give back through ethical and sustainable sourcing and by donating 10% profits to charity.

The range, which also includes Piccolo Pure Stanley Plum and Piccolo Pure Williams Pear, will be available in unique transparent packaging which allows parents to see exactly what they’re buying for their babies, bringing real innovation to the category.

Piccolo is driving real innovation in the baby food market – sales data shows that it has the best performing NPD and is the fastest growing brand in the category.

Speaking about the decision to work with Fairtrade, Piccolo founder Cat Gazzoli says: “At Piccolo we have a commitment to giving back – whether that’s through the food education programmes we support by giving 10% of our profits to charity or the ethical and environmental standards we uphold our suppliers to. Working with Fairtrade produce has always been one of our sustainability goals, and we’re delighted that the launch of our new range of single blend fruits, Piccolo Pure, has made it possible. We are incredibly proud to be the UK’s only baby food to be hold Fairtrade accreditation and to be supporting such an important initiative.”

The 70g pouches will be found in Waitrose stores from April (RRP £1), with a wider national roll out to follow.

Piccolo is also launching a series of exclusive partnerships to help reach 5 million new parents. The partnerships encourage new parents to introduce a healthy and active lifestyle for them and their babies, as well as building that all-important trust and credibility for the brand in its first year.

Piccolo is already the only baby food brand to be supported by the NCT (the UK’s largest parenting charity), and has now joined forces with leading parenting groups Hartbeeps (baby sensory classes), Water Babies (baby swimming lessons) and Buggyfit (postnatal exercise classes) to create an exclusive and extensive network that helps parents embrace health and well-being initiatives in those important first few years.

With marketing activity including sampling, weaning workshops, brand events and exclusive offers planned throughout 2017, Piccolo will reach 5 million new parents across the country at the time when they are often in need of support. The partnerships will be supported by social media initiatives and on-pack promotions throughout the year.

New Toddler Chickpea Snack For Toddlers From Little Dish
Little Dish – the maker of proper food for kids – has launched a brand new savoury toddler snack range in a bid to give parents a wider choice of healthy savoury snacks for young children.

Chickpea Pop Pops are delicious ‘nutritionist approved’ popped snacks made with 40% chickpeas. Compared to popular crisp brands Mums said they serve to toddlers – including Quavers, Wotsits and Hula Hoops – Chickpea Pop Pops are significantly lower in salt*, plus the special ‘air popped’ cooking method ensures they are low in saturated fat.

These light, crispy snacks are also a source of protein and high in fibre, providing vital nutrients for growing bodies, and, as people would expect from Little Dish, they contain no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. Plus they are gluten-free too.

Chickpea Pop Pops will be available in four delicious savoury recipes – Original, Cheese, Sweet Red Pepper and Tomato – and will join Go Gos, Little Dish’s award-winning mini wholegrain oat and seed biscuits, in the Baby Aisle.

All of the new Chickpea Pop Pops recipes have been approved by nutritionist and Mum Lucy Jones (MRES BSC Hons RD MBDA) to ensure they provide nutritional benefits for toddlers, and deliver on the brand’s mission of making a positive impact on childrens’ health.

Dean Brown, Managing Director, explains: “Parents often tell us they find it hard to find savoury snacks for young children on supermarket shelves, so we challenged ourselves to create something delicious without compromising on our strict nutritional guidelines.”

Lucy Jones adds: “Crisps often feature in parents’ quick fix snack options and are loved by children. Whilst fine as a treat, generally crisps are high in fat and salt, low in essential nutrients and therefore aren’t a useful addition to our everyday diets.

“Chickpea Pop Pops are a healthier savoury snack. A 17g bag provides a source of protein and is high in fibre; nutrients which help foods release their energy more slowly. Chickpea Pop Pops also provide vital nutrients for growing bones and bodies, plus they are low in saturated fat and contain significantly less salt than the average bag of crisps.”

As with all Little Dish toddler snacks, Chickpea Pop Pops have been given the thumbs up by a team of Tiny Tasters and their parents before they were let out of the kitchen.

The colourful new packaging stars the playful Zoo Crew characters and each pack has a handy re-sealable sticker to stop spills, and give little ones something fun to play with.

Little Dish Chickpea Pop Pops will be available in individual 17g bags priced at 75p (RRP) and sold in the Baby Aisle in Sainsburys and Tesco from the end of February 2017, with other major retailers to follow.

Kirsty’s ‘Kids’ Kitchen’ Range Rolled Out Across Morrison’s Stores
Award-winning gluten, wheat and dairy free brand, Kirsty’s, has announced that its Kids’ Kitchen range has been rolled out across 400 Morrison’s stores nationwide and will be available in Ocado for the first time in March. The Kids’ Kitchen range, initially launched in Autumn 2015, is a naturally free range of ready meals specifically aimed at children.

Kids’ Kitchen is a healthy and convenient range for children aged 2 to 9 and is currently the only free from chilled ready meal brand for youngsters. The meals have reinvented children’s favourites using healthy food swaps and contain no added sugar, are low in calories, fat and salt and count for at least one of your five a day.

Kirsty Henshaw, founder and managing director of Kirsty’s and Kids’ Kitchen, comments: “We’re delighted to have extended our reach into 400 Morrison’s stores. Packed with nutrients, all Kids’ Kitchen chilled ready meals are naturally healthy and suitable for children – not just Coeliacs and those with other food intolerances. The range will be available at an initial offer price of £1.55 in selected Morrison’s stores nationwide (normally priced at £1.95 for a 250g pack).

The range features eight meals, including; Cottage Pie with Sweet Potato Mash, Chicken Korma with Brown Rice, Sausage Casserole with Root Vegetables, Salmon and Cod Pie with Sweet Potato Mash, Lentil and Butternut Squash Pie with Sweet Potato Mash, Moroccan Chicken with Quinoa, Brown Rice and Lentils as well as Caribbean Chicken with Brown Rice.

The Kids’s Kitchen range compliments the Kirsty’s chilled ready meal brand which is available in 1400 supermarkets across the UK. The naturally free from brand was founded by Kirsty Henshaw and has been awarded many accolades within the food industry including the Innovation Award at the 2015 Free From Food Awards and by the 5:2 diet as the healthiest ready meal on the market.
