 The cube generates accurate refrigerated food storage temperatures by using a food substitute in an enclosure. This allows the logggit monitoring system to monitor actual food temperatures in the same location as the cube, as recommended by the Food Safety (temperature control) Guidelines 1995. The cube is also used as a refrigeration control system changing the thermostat from switching ‘on’ and ‘off’ based on the air temperature, to that of the food. This significantly reduces the number of compressor start-ups without compromising food safety. Energy savings from using the food simulant cubes are significant. Independent tests by Campden & ChorleywoodWood Food Research Association (CCFRA) confirmed energy savings of over 30% whilst keeping frozen food within the specified range and stated that the product was completely food safe. In the USA the product was tested and approved by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF). The NSF panel consisted of the US FDA, Wal*Mart as well as Hussman Refrigeration. Following the NSF approval Wal*Mart are now using the food simulant cube in their stores. The food simulant cube is patented in UK, Europe, Australia and the US, including using it in conjunction with telemetry systems. |
