The V2622 Flex-Lite Modular Vision Inspection System for Product Verification
The new V2622 Flex-Lite modular vision inspection system from Mettler-Toledo CI-Vision gives manufacturers a quick and easy introduction to camera-based label and marking verification with expandable modular components.

The system offers one hundred percent quality control of flat codes, markings, texts, use-by dates and lot and batch numbers. In addition, packaging control features such as correct sealing and accurate lid colour broadens the range of applications. Above all, Mettler-Toledo addresses the needs of manufacturers wanting to achieve greater optimisation of their product quality control, in a cost-effective way.

The basic V2622 Flex-Lite system contains
a smart camera and connected patch panel along with client software. In addition, system operators can select additional modules as needed. If vision inspection requirements change at a later time, the system can be expanded for additional functionality thanks to its flexible design. With all components compliant with IP65 water and dust resistant standards, the inspection system offers a versatile range of applications. The standard TCP-IP connection makes it possible to integrate into existing or new packaging lines without complication.

The V2622 Flex-Lite patch panel is easily integrated into an existing control panel. If the control panel is fully in use, the patch panel can be installed on a separately constructed control panel. Manufacturers can install the system themselves or seek assistance from Mettler-Toledo's CI-Vision installation service team, for both installation and operator training.

The V2622 Flex-Lite is equipped with smart cameras using different resolutions, lenses and lighting types for black and white or colour readings. The liquid lens camera is a special highlight. Previous models had to be reset for each product changeover, but liquid lens technology allows the camera to change its focus in a split second, entirely without moving parts, allowing product features to be controlled at various levels during a single inspection step. In addition to providing multi-dimensional control, the liquid lens guarantees manufacturers minimal changeover times with maximum flexibility. The configuration of the smart cameras can be centrally controlled and adjusted using the optional Inspection Manager Software. In addition, the cameras are equipped with status LEDs - displaying information on connection quality, camera status and output signal.

Operation of the V2622 Flex-Lite is performed using an optional Mettler-Toledo CI-Vision touch screen with real-time updates, or a connected laptop. The vision inspection system’s four pre-installed access management levels permit targeted control of access rights and optimisation of operator transparency.

Reinhold van Ackeren, Head of Marketing & Product Management SBU VI at Mettler-Toledo, commented: “The V2622 is the ideal entry level vision inspection solution for Oriented Products. Its compact design allows it to fit into tight spaces and its drop in control panel can be added to existing electrical cabinets with ease – allowing for easy integration into exisiting lines. It’s modular composition allows manufacturers to choose only the components, software, service and project management they need – keeping implementation and installation costs to a minimum. In addition, Mettler-Toledo offers a full turnkey installation service and ongoing support to cover customers’ vision programmes from start to finish. This begins with a no-cost, comprehensive solution recommendation to ensure complete peace of mind.”

Videojet Showcases Continuous Inkjet, Thermal Inkjet, Laser, Case Coding and Print and Apply Labelling Solutions At PPMA
Videojet Technologies, a global leader in coding, marking and variable data printing solutions, will showcase its latest product innovations at the 2016 PPMA TOTAL trade show held 27th - 29th September at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham, UK.

With over 40 years of advancement in the printing and marking industry, Videojet continues to deliver technologies to increase production efficiency and reliability. “We are committed to designing innovative products that address current industry needs,” said Matt Browne, UK Marketing Manager at Videojet. “We are excited to exhibit coding and marking solutions that highlight our newest technologies to address these needs, including throughput, reliability and Code Assurance.”

Innovative Solutions for High Quality Code Performance

From compliance marking to value-added coding, Videojet will show its latest industrial innovations on Stand C70. Technologies on display will include continuous inkjet (CIJ) printers, thermal inkjet (TIJ) printers, laser marking systems, case coders and label print and apply (LPA) systems. Each system is designed to complement the industry’s most dynamic production lines running a variety of products including cartons, cans, bottles, labels, cases and other packaging materials. Also featured will be software and networking advancements designed to maximize productivity.

Videojet will launch new technologies at PPMA TOTAL 2016 including:

The new Videojet 3140 and 3340 CO2 Lasers are designed to help code faster and more efficiently. With marking speeds up to 60% faster than previous lasers[1], manufacturers can now mark four lines of variable data, plus 2D codes at 287 ms code time average. The 3340 laser also has the widest marking field in the industry and can cover up to 600mm, meaning wide web applications can be addressed with one laser that previously would have required two lasers.
The new Videojet 7610 100-Watt Fiber Laser has been specifically designed for high speed beverage, pharmaceutical and extrusion manufacturers who need power and speed when marking high-contrast codes on hard plastics and metals, such as aluminium cans, extruded tubes and cables. In addition to faster line speeds, the new 100-Watt Fiber laser has a large marking window that provides more time to mark, increasing product throughput and maximizing productivity.
Other Videojet products to be showcased at PPMA TOTAL include:

Continuous inkjet printers, including the Videojet 1660 engineered to help increase uptime, reduce cost of ownership and enhance profitability in high-use applications. Videojet will also showcase specialty CIJ printers, including the Videojet 1620 / 1650 High Resolution (HR) printer ideal for micro print applications, and the Videojet 1710 that uses high-contrast, pigmented inks to create bright, clean codes on dark or difficult to mark surfaces.
Inline thermal inkjet solutions including the Videojet 8510 for printing alphanumeric codes and complex bar codes, to graphics on a range of primary and secondary marking applications.
Large character inkjet printers including the high resolution Videojet 2360 and the low resolution Videojet 2120 for customers who need to print information onto cases and cartons
The Videojet 9550 with Intelligent Motion™ technology, a print and apply labeller that utilizes advanced direct drive technology to eliminate the manual adjustments, clutches and nip rollers that can cause downtime in traditional print and apply labellers.
CLARiSUITE™ Code Assurance Solutions to help ensure that the correct code is applied in the correct location on the correct product and packaging.
Videojet Remote Service provides electronic notification to designated users regarding printer needs as well as potential system issues. Combined with exclusive remote access technology, users and Videojet technical support personnel can see into and evaluate printer performance from virtually anywhere for quick and simplified troubleshooting.
Stand visitors will also be invited to experience live demonstrations and workshops throughout the 3-day event, including a workshop with partner DataLase to showcase innovative laser solutions for late-stage customisation on shipping cases.

“We look forward to welcoming visitors to the stand, and having the opportunity to demonstrate our innovative coding and marking solutions. We’re excited to launch a number of new laser marking systems, helping to address high speed and wide web applications,” concluded Browne.

Videojet will also be hosting a stimulating discussion aimed at equipping pharmaceutical and healthcare packaging professionals with the latest thinking in the field of serialization. Examining the topic of CMO Serialization Readiness and Support Strategy, presenters Tony Walsh, Principle Consultant of Walsh Consulting and Gerry O’Brien, UK and Ireland Videojet Senior Sales Engineer, will be taking a close look at coding technologies and preferred solutions within the industry at present.

ICE Celebrate 15 Years In Business
Interactive Coding Equipment (ICE), a UK leader in high-quality coding and marking solutions for the food and beverage, pharmaceutical, printing and DIY industries, is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year.

The Nottingham-based company was established in 2001 after its founding directors – Chris Simpson, Chris Gent and Dave Bradbury – had the idea of combining their 40 years’ engineering experience to create a company that could deliver unrivalled coding, printing and labelling solutions to the packaging industry.

Today ICE enjoys a strong reputation for innovation and high quality customer service across a range of technologies, including thermal transfer, thermal inkjet, large character marking and print & apply labelling.

Since its launch, the company has grown from a three-man operation to a thriving business with more than 65 employees – an expansion reflected by its three changes of premises, culminating in the company’s large purpose-built headquarters at Olympic House, Nottingham. In its 15-year history, ICE has installed 9,000 machines for more than a thousand customers.

As it celebrates this milestone, ICE can look back on a proud record of delivering an array of fully integrated solutions, starting with the Zodiac Thermal Transfer Overprinter in 2001 and the Torus Case Coder range in 2003, the Viper Thermal Inkjet printer in 2010, the Vulcan Print and Apply Labeller in 2014 and the Scorpion Thermal Inkjet printer last year.

Since 2013, the company has also sponsored several motorcycle racing teams, including the ICE MV Agusta UK team, which competed in the Pirelli National Superstock Series and most recently the Buildbase BMW team, taking part in the current British Superbike (BSB) Championship.

“Our 15 years of success and growth are a tremendous achievement and a tribute to the hard work and dedication of the entire ICE team,” comments Chris Simpson. “Here’s to the next 15 years – and beyond!”

ICE will be marking its 15th birthday at the PPMA Total Show at the NEC in September (27-29th). Customers are being invited to sign up as a VIP visitor on the company’s website (www.interactivecoding.co.uk/VIP) in order to receive an exclusive birthday gift when visiting the ICE stand (D70).
