SATO Expands NX Series with Next-gen 6-inch Industrial Thermal Printer
SATO, a leading global provider of Auto-ID solutions that empower workforces and streamline operations, has announced the launch of the new CL6NX, a 6-inch industrial thermal printer designed for intuitive operation, easy integration and industrial strength durability.

The CL6NX is ideal for manufacturing, warehousing, supply chain logistics, healthcare, retail, and is easily configurable and scalable for global deployments.

The NX Series represents SATO’s next generation of thermal printers with advanced support for barcode symbologies, character sets and communication interfaces. A product of SATO’s global R&D network, the NX Series incorporates value-added features in a world-class design to deliver a printing solution that goes beyond expectations.

“The CL6NX builds on the success of the CL4NX, which was a game-changer for both SATO and the industry. The NX Series’ advanced technology and innovative features redefine the standard for the next generation of industrial printers,” said Noriyasu Yamada, Chief Product Planning Officer at SATO.

“Through the expansion of the NX Series, we are able to offer an even greater level of flexibility to our customers, minimise their total cost of ownership and boost efficiency to give them a competitive edge.”

The NX series is designed to be easy to use and easy to integrate with existing systems, while placing importance on sustainable innovation, with coreless ribbon supply that eliminates waste and superior energy efficiency to decrease energy costs and consumption.

Key features of the new CL6NX include:
* User-friendly operability with a 3.5-inch full-colour display and built-in/customisable video tutorials
* Easy maintenance with tool-less print head and platens replacement
* Excellent print quality consistent across a wide range of consumables
* Best-in-class ruggedness with aluminium die-cast construction
* Elite processing power, throughput speed, and memory capacity
* Unrivaled communication and emulation capabilities
* Ready for global deployment with 30+ display languages and 40+ print character sets

Linx Builds For The Future With New HQ Opening
Global coding and marking specialist Linx Printing Technologies has unveiled its new, purpose-built UK headquarters.

The 41,000 sq ft development, at Compass Point Business Park in St. Ives, Cambridgeshire, was opened by the Huntingdon MP Jonathan Djanogly in a ceremony on 26 March.

Representing an investment of around £8m in manufacturing in St Ives, it brings together Linx employees in a single facility to replace separate buildings in Burrel Road, St Ives, where Linx has been based since 1989.

Mr Djanogly also toured the development, which took 43 weeks to complete, and houses research and development laboratories, sales and administration offices, manufacturing and assembly lines and storage and distribution areas, along with dedicated customer training facilities.

He said: “I was delighted to join Nigel and his team at Linx to officially open their new building. Our economy could not function without businesses such as Linx and the hardworking people who are behind them. Not only do growing businesses such as Linx make an invaluable contribution to our national growth but they are responsible for nearly half the job creation in the UK. It is very encouraging to see a well-established company like Linx investing in the local area by expanding its facilities and growing its business.”

In keeping with its approach to product development and manufacture, Linx has put sustainability at the forefront of the new building’s design.

Energy use is minimised by the highly-insulated composite panels used primarily in the building’s construction, heat recovery technology within air handling units and the use of low-energy LED lighting in most areas.

Solar panels on the roof will mean Linx itself can generate up to 13070 KwH per year, which will abate 6914kg of carbon dioxide emissions.

In addition, the installation of a cycle locker room and showers is intended to make it easier for staff to cycle, rather than drive, to work.

Linx Managing Director Nigel Hood says: “The new headquarters building not only underlines Linx’s commitment to developing the leading coding and marking
equipment for customers and the best working environment for employees, but also our environmental credentials as a conscientious local employer and an international manufacturer.

“This new facility will enable Linx to build even further on our success with state-of-the art product development, manufacturing, training and service facilities that will allow us to compete at the highest level in global markets.”

Reduce End-of-Line Labeling Downtime With Videojet
Manufacturers and packaging companies struggling to improve efficiency and uptime with their outer casing printing and labelling solutions can now learn how to overcome this by selecting alternative advanced technologies.

Videojet Technologies, a global leading coding, marking and printing solutions company, has identified the five most common reasons for Print and Apply Labelling (LPA) downtime: label jams, web jams, ribbon jams, mechanical failure and mechanical adjustments. Through a downloadable application note, Videojet offers expert advice to manufacturers how they can increase uptime, improve operational equipment effectiveness (OEE) and maintain high throughput on their production lines by simply changing the LPA applicator.

Traditionally, LPA machines have relied on the accurate and timely placement of the label from the print engine onto an applicator pad. This mechanical process is often a significant contributor to conventional LPA failure, such as misapplied labels, and consequential downtime. To help prevent this, multiple adjustments to the applicator are required thus diverting operatives from their day-to-day priorities and onto time-consuming maintenance work.

Entitled ‘Improve efficiency: switch from tamp or blow applicators to Direct Apply™ labeling’, Videojet provides detailed guidance on the benefits to replacing conventional tamp or blow LPA applicators (LPA) with Direct Apply™ labeling technology. This technology removes the need for an applicator, by automatically printing and wiping a label onto the side of every passing pack.

Some advantages of this new type of LPA technology are:

* Speed and throughput - by removing the need for an applicator, operatives are able to accelerate and also vary the speed of the production line as required to run at a linear speed from 40 mm/sec up to 500 mm/sec.
* Pack spacing - As this type of LPA applies labels at faster speeds than traditional technologies, the gaps required between packs are reduced. This means manufacturers can now correctly print up to 150 packs per minute with a typical 4” x 6” GS1 barcode label.
* Correct labeling - The risk of mislabeling or label clash is eliminated due to this new method of LPA. This means it never misses a label, even after line build-backs.

Bob Neagle, Business Unit Manager for Secondary Packaging, Videojet, explains “Over the past 20 years LPA technology has barely changed. Taking into account manufacturers’ concerns regarding unnecessary downtime we designed the Videojet 9550 with Direct ApplyTM and removed the mechanisms that cause everyday operational downtime, such as label jams. By downloading our Expert Application Note, manufacturers will understand how they can accurately label their outer case and bundle packages, plus improve production line efficiency.”
