SATO Group Launches SATO International To Advance Global Growth Strategy
SATO, a global leader in barcode printing, labelling, and EPC/RFID solutions, has announced the official launch of SATO International, a new group company that will be located in Tokyo, Japan.

The company will integrate and drive all aspects of overseas business activities including boosting earnings, improving group synergy, crafting and executing global strategy, supporting sales activities and customer management.

To ensure the rapid execution of the Group’s strategy, Kaz Matsuyama, President and CEO of SATO Holdings, will also serve as the head of SATO International, allowing for central management of global business operations and close cooperation between the headquarters and overseas group companies.

Yasuhiro Tanabe, who joined SATO in 2014, has been appointed as Vice President of the newly formed company. Prior to joining SATO, Mr. Tanabe spent close to 20 years at Sony in a variety of roles from product planning, marketing and sales, to production and general management. He also spent eight years of his career working in North America and Asia. Building on his extensive experience, Mr. Tanabe will play a key in role in steering SATO’s business operations and fine tuning its strategies in overseas markets.

“Globalisation and maximisation of customer value are two core components of our long-term strategy,” said Kaz Matsuyama, President and CEO of SATO Holdings. “SATO International will drive that strategy, expanding our market share and reach, allowing us to effectively provide customers with end-to-end Auto-ID and Data Capture solutions on a truly global scale.”

After a decade of growth in overseas markets, SATO currently has offices in 24 countries and a business presence in over 90 countries. In 2003 the company generated JPY 10.1 billion in overseas sales, which accounted for roughly 17% of total revenue. By 2013, sales figures nearly tripled, with JPY 28.3 billion in overseas sales, and a total of 29% of all revenue coming from outside of Japan. SATO is targeting a 40% overseas sales ratio for 2020, and expects to see JPY 60 billion in revenue from markets in the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific. Looking beyond 2020, the company expects to eventually achieve a 70% overseas sales ratio as SATO expands into new regions and increases its market share.

Strong Partnership Brings Effective IT Solutions From CSB-System
Food and drink IT specialist CSB-System and leading factory automation solutions provider AutoCoding Systems have formed a strategic alliance.

Under the agreement, both companies will be able to offer each other’s full range of products, including CSB’s food and drink specific software covering areas such as ERP, MES, production planning and traceability, and AutoCoding Systems’ proven coding and packaging verification solutions.

Founded in 1977, CSB-System creates tailor made business software solutions that help food and beverage companies achieve increased performance, profitability and efficiency, including in-house systems for process and business management and also flexible mobile and field service solutions. The company is one of the leading business software vendors within the worldwide food and beverage sector, with over 30 sales companies and represented in over 40 countries.

AutoCoding Systems has been providing factory automation solutions to FMCG companies in the UK for over 10 years. The company has particular expertise in coding and packaging verification and data integrity on the packing line that reduces the need for operator intervention and eliminates the risk of packing and coding errors. AutoCoding’s software is able to integrate with all major coding, labelling, checkweighing and packaging equipment manufacturers and its modular system enables a solution to be tailored to individual customer requirements.

The ability to combine the two companies’ areas of expertise will provide customers with a seamless system of control and monitoring from goods inwards to the packing and onward distribution of finished goods, delivering optimised processing, high efficiencies and comprehensive data reporting.

“We are delighted to have formed this alliance with AutoCoding Systems,” comments Paul Griffin, International Business Development Director, CSB-System. “The company’s experience and market knowledge will be invaluable in helping us to further grow our presence in the UK market.”

Mike Hughes, Managing Director of AutoCoding Systems adds: “CSB-System is a like-minded company, which has a clear synergy with our own operations, and forming a closer working relationship will allow us to use our joint expertise and technical knowledge to open many mutually beneficial opportunities.”

Sheep Print Introduces Npd Solution For Launch Of Food Products
One of the leading UK suppliers of labelling solutions for plastic containers, Sheep Print is targeting new product development managers with a low run in-mould labelling (IML) solution.

Thanks to new production developments Sheep Print can now do runs from as little as 10,000 labelled pots and matching lids, allowing food companies to professionally present their new products without needing to resort to self-adhesive labels.

IML provides a high quality, more professional appearance than a conventional sticky product label, but minimum label production numbers have previously often ruled them out for use on new food trials due to initial lower production runs.

The move by Sheep Print to offer lower IML production quantities should prove of particular benefit to new product development managers who are often under pressure to test the market with initial product launches, to determine whether there is a demand to justify full scale production.

Traditionally the minimum number of IML labels that could be produced was 50,000 which meant that many companies were unable to justify the cost on low batch product numbers. However this has also changed with the intervention of Sheep Print which is trying to pioneer a move towards companies always using IML.

Unlike many other suppliers Sheep Print also offers quick project turnaround times, this is typically four to five weeks after the artwork has been signed off, which provides food personnel and new product managers with far greater flexibility. The company also offers a fast turnaround design service, providing samples of the whole range- for visual reference, advice on colour schemes for particular products and grant easy access to the technical information. This provides for an easier and faster decision making process.

Sheep Print a BRC accredited supplier is no stranger to the food industry and its extensive range of tamper-proof IML printed plastic containers are already used for a wide variety of food products including ready meals, snacks, soups, yoghurts, breakfast cereals, desserts, ice cream and many other foods.

IML plastic pots offer a number of advantages over conventional sticky labelled pots. These include a more professional finish, matching lids and containers, a security lock and are leak and tamper proof. IML eliminates the need for label application, thus reducing machine or labour costs. IML pots are also stronger than thermoformed pots and can be filled at much higher temperatures.

The company hopes that the short batch runs will appeal to not just large food producers looking to do food trials but also SMEs keen to present the feel of a more established on-shelf appearance.

Sheep Print’s Head of UK Operations, Milda Laurikiete, explains: “We decided to introduce innovative new technology which has enable us to cut the production quantity from 50,000 to 10,000 IML labels to enable us to target the new product development market. This solution is ideal for product launches and trials and although the costs per label are a little bit higher on a 10,000 run we think the cost is justified because of the much greater professionalism the labels provide.”

A one-stop shop is offered for plastic pots and lids by Sheep Print, this includes full colour printing and metallic options, as well as the finished articles. Its IML plastic pots are produced to BRC Food standards and ISO 9001, they are lightweight and can be stacked, can be clear or coloured, come in various shapes and sizes from 120ml to 2L with or without handles.

Sheep Print can also print on both sides of the lids and matching plastic containers. This provides additional flexibility and an outlet for secondary information such as cooking instructions, mixing information, different languages or marketing information.

Originally established in Lithuania, Sheep Print started offering IML pots to the UK market a few years ago. Sheep Print’s pots are used by leading multiple retailers such as Morrisons and the Co-op’s own ranges and also by suppliers to Waitrose, Holland & Barrett, Selfridges and Café Nero amongst numerous others.
