Simple Simon has just launched his brand new Chorizo Pie, which went down a storm at Taste of Edinburgh held in Inverleith Park. Third in Bernard Alessi’s Luxury Larder Range, placed at the top end of his collection - alongside the popular Duke of Wellington Pie and Lamb Kidney’s and Turbigo Pie.
Made from delicious Spanish chorizo with devilled black eyed beans, soft goat’s cheese, chilli peppers and tomato - the new pie will be sold for £5.75 retail and £3.55 wholesale. Simple Simon normally makes his award winning pies using local ingredients but when he tasted the chorizo sausage imported by local deli owner Ivan Stott at The Olive Tree Deli in Biggar he had to make an exception. He decided this raw chorizo simply had to feature on his Luxury Larder menu and devised a recipe including devilled black eyed beans and goat’s cheese – an interesting marriage that delights the palate in terms of taste and texture and the rich aroma of the chorizo makes this pie filling a true sensory explosion.
Simple Simon’s Perfect Pies use only the finest, freshest most natural ingredients including organic world-class meats, fresh fish and fresh herbs. They are prepared by award winning pie maker Bernard Alessi, sealed with their natural juices and encased in his famous puff pastry.
Gareth Davies, a guest at Taste of Edinburgh said, “It’s so well balanced, the goat’s cheese is really mild and creamy.”
Pam Duncan, also a customer at Taste said of the new pie – “That’s delicious, really unexpected taste and works so well in a pie.”
