Proseal Targets Skin Packs With New Vacuum Tray Sealer
Proseal has further extended its range of vacuum tray sealers with the launch of a model specifically designed for skin packs.

The Proseal GT1VS features a servo-driven infeed conveyor and high accuracy tray positioning system and accepts randomly spaced trays in all types of materials at sealing speeds of up to 24 packs per minute depending on the product

Skin packs feature a special film that seals to all surfaces of a tray – rim, sidewalls and base – to tightly cover the entire contents. The packs have been used predominantly for fish products in the past but are being increasing seen for other types of foods such as ready to cook meals, game, meat and sausage products, and mini joints.

Wrapping the seal around the contents means products can be vacuumed packed for extended shelf life without the need for gas flushing. At the same time, because there is no gas headspace required, tray heights can be reduced, thus saving on packaging materials. The sealing system also means product can extend over the height of the tray. Environmental benefits include lower weight and reduced handling and storage costs for the packs, and the minimising of food waste.

Skin packs offer enhanced on-shelf presentation, enabling products and accompaniments or garnishes to be clearly seen, while packs can be placed upright to maximise shelf space. The tight seals also eliminate leakage for products containing sauces.

The GT1VS incorporates a special auto connect tool docking facility, with lead-less and hose-less connection of both gas and electrical supply, to enable tool changes to be carried out in a matter of minutes. It also offers maximum flexibility with the option to run multiple depth trays on a single tool set.

The food industry approved construction with wash-down protection incorporates a number of features for maximum hygiene and easy maintenance. Both top and base tool elements can be split in seconds without the need for any hand tools, while the latched top tool head and base tool top ensure fast and easy access. Tool diagnostics such as a leak test routine and cycle-time analysis can be accessed via the dual-side Touch Screen.

The Special Ingredient For Tasty Cooking - Si-bag Cook-in Bag
Innovative food packaging company Sirane has launched the Si-bag™ to market – a cook-in bag which allows all the flavours to be sealed in for simple, tasty cooking.

The Si-bag™ is a cook-in bag designed to be used safely in a conventional oven up to 200 degrees celsius, in a microwave - and even in a freezer for subsequent reheating and eating.

Ian Beardsall, director of product process and development, said: “Simple cooking and straight-to oven or microwave food doesn’t have to sacrifice on flavours.

“The Si-bag™ keeps all the flavours, it allows people to cook quickly and easily with fresh ingredients. Healthy eating and fast food can be combined.”

All the natural flavours of the meat, fish or vegetables are sealed in the bag during cooking, creating a sensational and healthy meal.

The Si-bag™ has been developed by Sirane’s engineers and scientists. It is a bag made from very high temperature resistant film, which combines practicality with simplicity.
The meal is sealed in using a fold-over flap and the bag becomes odour and leak-proof.

Simon Balderson, Sirane’s MD, said: “The Si-bag™ is not only perfect for home users wanting to create a simple yet tasty meal, but also for retailers wanting to send customers home with a great tasting meal that can just be popped straight into the oven or microwave.”

Just pop it in the oven to cook... it's that easy! Flavoured butters and glazes can be added. The result is superb tasting, succulent food, cooked in its own juices and added jus.

International packaging design, development and manufacturing company Sirane has unveiled a new website – www.si-bag.com – to back up the product.

Enquiries from potential distributors of the Si-bag™ and retail partners are welcome.

WHITE PAPER: Delivering Efficient Compliance On Average Weight Legislation
The legal constraints faced by food manufactures on issues such as average weight legislation mean that producers often overfill their bottles, jars and containers to ensure their final product does not fall below the required specification.

METTLER TOLEDO’s White Paper ‘Package Quality Control - Net Content Control’ offers an insightful solution to manufactures in reducing costs whilst delivering enhanced compliance simply by adopting an SQC method to process control.
SQC weighing systems apply statistical methods to process control, accurately calculating mean and standard deviation values to determine legally defined tolerance levels.

Managing data in this way means manufacturers can assess their processes in real time, correcting variations which occur during the production process.

The White Paper also offers guidance on realising a return on investment with SQC systems after the first 12 months of implementation as well as addressing important design considerations which offer flexible and intuitive interfaces as well as a five step guide to gaining quality information through a well designed SQC data system.
